Our ballet/tap combo is designed for ages 3-4, running 30 minutes each day. The first 15 minutes will be ballet This class will run 30 minutes each week: The first 15 minutes will be ballet, and the last 15 minutes will be tap. The class focuses on creative movement, free expression, body awareness and basic motor skills, while teaching the basic elements of ballet and tap. The child’s imagination and self-esteem are encouraged and are developed well through dance.
Our ballet/jazz combo is designed for ages 5-6, running 45 minutes each day. This introductory class touches on both ballet and jazz technique. Ballet is the solid foundation of dance. It forms the basis for discipline, creativity, and appreciation of dance in the art form. Proper turn out of the legs, posture, placement, and alignment will be emphasized. Students will learn ballet vocabulary through Barre and center work while building strength, flexibility, energy, and athleticism. Jazz develops style, strength, and versatility in a dancer. During this portion of the class we will focus on across the floor progressions and combinations, center-floor technique, and combinations. We will also discuss and practice basic jazz technique and terminology and focus on flexibility and mobility.

We have lots of new skirted leotards and tights in stock at the studio!

You will either need pink ballet shoes or toe pads for this class. It depends on the type of dance the class will perform at recital …either ballet or jazz. I like to see the class for a couple weeks before deciding that. Until I announce what type of shoe will be required, whatever you have at home will work for the first couple of weeks (or during one of our Summer sessions) … even a pair of socks will do.
BALLET

In this class we will emphasize correct technique, terminology, flexibility, and mobility.

TAP
Tap enhances rhythmic dynamics, speed, and agility. More than other dance forms, tap instills awareness of the music’s timing, rhythm, and changes of energy. With a focus on total body movement, technical correctness, and performance, tap is probably the most intricate of all dance forms. During class, the dancers will learn technique as well as terminology.

HIP HOP
Hip-Hop is a highly stylized, fast paced, athletic and expressive form of jazz dance. Individual style and interpretation is encouraged while incorporating high levels of energy. Body isolations are the basis for the intricate movements usually inspired by hip-hop music. All music is carefully listened to ahead of time, and will be appropriate for all ages. The class will be structured around a cardio filled warm-up, stretching, and core strengthening exercises.
Hair
Must be pulled back into a tight bun or ponytail. Bangs should be pulled back and out of eyes. Short hair will be excused from a bun and ponytail, but front pieces should be fastened or hair-sprayed back.
Attire
Pants that are easy to move in, and do not drag excessively on the ground. Please do not wear jeans! Tank-tops, t-shirts, or long sleeve shirts are all permitted. We have lots of CDC dance apparel in stock at the studio. Shoes
We do not require a specific pair of shoes to begin a hip hop class. A matching class tennis shoe will end up being part of the costume cost. These matching class tennis shoes will be ordered in December and available for the dancers to practice in once they arrive. Toe pads, jazz shoes, or your own pair of tennis shoes until then is permitted. Bring a change of shoes with you. Please no soiled shoes! Thank you.
LYRICAL
Lyrical is a soft blend of jazz and ballet technique. This class will emphasize on free expression through the sound and “attitude” of the music. The classes will be structured around a proper warm-up and stretch, across the floor progressions and combinations, center-floor technique and combinations, and performance skills and choreography. In this class we will emphasize correct technique, terminology, flexibility, and mobility.

LYRICAL / JAZZ COMBO
This class will focus on both lyrical and jazz technique. Lyrical is a soft blend of jazz and ballet technique with slower, controlled movements. Jazz develops style, strength, and versatility in a dancer with sharper, quicker movements. The classes will be structured around a proper warm-up and stretch, across the floor progressions and combinations, center-floor technique and combinations, and performance skills and choreography. In this class we will emphasize correct technique, terminology, flexibility, and mobility. We will choose either a lyrical or jazz routine for the recital in May.

ADVANCED TECHNIQUE
This class will run 90 minutes each week and will incorporate a mixture of techniques studied in both ballet and jazz. One routine will be rehearsed then performed at recital. The sole purpose of this class is to improve strength, flexibility, and overall technique of the dancer with a higher level of intensity. This class is reserved for current RLHS dance team members only.

DANCE TEAM: POM+KICK
This class will be taught by a current or veteran RLHS dance team member or coach. The students will learn a wide variety of Pom and High Kick technique, placement, terminology, and choreography. It is a great introduction to those who aspire to become part of a dance team in the future. Poms will be supplied by the studio to use. The class will be structured around a proper warm-up and stretch, across the floor progressions and combinations, center-floor technique and combinations, and performance skills. In this class we will emphasize correct technique, terminology, flexibility, and mobility.
